The United States of America forms a major portion of the continent of North America. It came into being in the year 1783 under the Treaty of Paris. The United States of America consists of 50 states, one federal district, five territories, 326 reservations, and a few minor areas. The capital is Washington DC and the city with the most population is New York City.

The United States is a federal republic. It is also a representative democracy. It is the founding member of several world organisations such as United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organization of American States, NATO, and other international organizations.
Due to its mixed ethnic background, it is noted as a melting pot for cultures. The original principles of the founding fathers of the United States was a high quality of life, human rights, higher education, and equality for all. Called the Land of the Brave and the Free, it set out to be an example in upholding human rights. But of late the country has come under attack for its inequality in race, wealth, and income.
The Economy of the United States by and large affects the economies of many countries in the world. Though its population is just 4.2% of the total world population, it holds nearly 30% of the total world wealth. It is considered to be the world's largest importer and the second-largest exporter of goods. It is also a world power in the field of science with several new innovations in the field of technology and discoveries in the field of medicine to its credit.
